Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) released this statement after Nancy Pelosi was voted and sworn in as Speaker of the House of Representatives:
“Today I voted against the new House majority Rules package led by Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi,” said Marchant.
“Speaker Pelosi wants to raise taxes and roll back tax cuts that have continuously helped the financial stability of hardworking American families. With the economy thriving and unemployment at all-time lows, now is not the time to change course. The country doesn’t need a speaker who puts politics over national security, wants to limit 2nd Amendment rights, and advocates for increased spending across the board. We need leadership who puts America’s needs before theirs.
“Speaker Pelosi’s recently proposed spending plan highlights her out of touch priorities, including increasing foreign aid while providing global programs with 12 billion dollars over the President’s requested amount. The democrats’ plan is to ignore the crisis at our southern border while sending more taxpayer dollars overseas.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the people of 24th Congressional District of Texas and I look forward to working for you over the next two years and combatting Speaker Pelosi’s dangerous policies.”
