Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) released this statement after the Secretary of Defense James Mattis announced he will be leaving his post at the end of February:
“Mr. Mattis joined the Marine Corps Reserve at 18 years old looking to make a positive difference in the world, and has served his country tirelessly in his more than four decades in uniform,” said Marchant.
“Over the years he has earned a reputation among his colleagues and the defense community for integrity and good judgement, garnering the respect and trust of presidents, lawmakers, and the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Defense Secretary Mattis has faithfully carried out missions both military and civilian, always working to protect the American people and our allies. His tenure at the Department of Defense will be remembered for leading the effort to defeat ISIS, rebuilding our military, and protecting the American people.
“I thank him for his lifelong commitment to our national security and steadfast leadership in times of conflict.”
