Marchant Statement on Recognizing Jerusalem as Capital of Israel

Washington – U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) released the following statement after the announcement by President Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel:

“The United States has no stronger ally in the Middle East than the State of Israel, and the people of Israel have no greater partner than the United States,” said Marchant. “For over 3,000 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital. I cosponsored legislation recognizing Jerusalem as the capital city of the State of Israel, and I support this administration taking action to do the same. Republicans and Democrats, in the House, the Senate and the White House, have long supported an undivided Jerusalem. I agree with these efforts by President Trump, and I will continue to support the safety, security and prosperity of our friends in Israel.”

Note: In 1995, Congress originally passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act, it was unanimously reaffirmed by the Senate this past June, 90-0. Congressman Marchant is a cosponsor of H.R. 257 the Recognition of Jerusalem as the Capital of the State of Israel Act which was referred to Committee on Foreign Affairs, Subcommittee on Middle East and North Africa.
