Marchant Announces Priorities for 115th Congress

WASHINGTON, DC – December 19, 2016: U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) issued this statement outlining his top priorities for the 115th Congress:

President Obama’s disastrous healthcare law, “Obamacare,” must be fully repealed. Every year since this law passed, Americans woke up to another broken promise by the Obama administration. The President’s un-affordable and disastrous health care law has collapsed on itself, and hardworking North Texans have suffered the consequences. Families are stuck paying higher premiums, with fewer choices and less access to their doctors. Conservatives have consistently offered plans to repeal and replace Obamacare, with real, patient-centered solutions. The false promise that was Obamacare must be fully repealed at the start of the new year.

Our country’s broken immigration system fell victim to the current administration’s unwillingness to enforce our nation’s immigrations laws. Our focus in the new year should be to secure our border, enforce the immigration laws that are already on the books that are the law of the land.

We must get to work on simplifying our tax code. In the new year, Congress should work to provide Americans with a simpler, flatter, and fairer tax code. Both the tax code and the IRS are broken. It is Congress’ responsibility to develop policies that deliver job growth, simplify the tax code, and restructure the broken IRS. We cannot continue to live with a tax code that is doomed to punish hard work, savings and entrepreneurship. Lowering rates and putting more hard-earned wages back into the pockets of workers will greatly benefit all of us in North Texas.

Our debt exploded under President Obama. Meaningful action needs to be taken to get spending and our debt under control. That includes adopting a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. We must explore fiscally conservative approaches that build a healthier economy and reduce deficits in both the short and long-term.
