Marchant Statement following Tax Blueprint Roll-Out

WASHINGTON – June 24, 2016: U.S. Congressman and Ways and Means Committee member Kenny Marchant (TX-24) issued the following statement following the release of the House Tax Reform Task Force’s “A Better Way: A Pro-Growth Tax Code For All Americans.”

“The Tax Reform Task Force made a significant step in providing a simpler, flatter, and fairer tax code for all Americans,” said Marchant. “My constituents know the tax code and the IRS are both broken. This plan released today takes the tax code and the IRS into the 21st century with a focus on customer service and simplicity.”

“A ‘service first’ IRS, comes with new guidelines starting at the top with the administrator including term limits to their tenure. This plan ensures the administrator is accountable to the American taxpayer and administers the tax code in a fair and consistent manner. Under this plan, the IRS will not exist as it is today, and the redesign into distinct service units will serve the American people in a timely manner.”

“It is Congress’ responsibility to develop policies that deliver job growth, simplify the tax code, and restructure the broken IRS. We cannot continue to live with a tax code that is doomed to punish hard work, savings and entrepreneurship. This tax blueprint is just the beginning. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, I applaud Chairman Brady for his leadership on revamping the tax code and correcting the corrupted bureaucratic structure at the IRS. I look forward to hearing feedback from my constituents in Texas as we continue to make strides towards a code focused on economic growth, simplicity and fairness.”
