July 2009 | Rohail Premjee

Rohail Premjee is the Star of the 24th for July 2009. Rohail, a Colleyville resident and senior at Trinity Valley High School, has been a Congressional Page in Washington, D.C. this summer. Pages have been serving the House of Representatives for nearly two hundred years. Among his many duties as a Page, Rohail assists Members with their legislative duties, delivers correspondence and small packages within the congressional complex, answers phones in the Member cloakrooms, and prepares the House Floor for sessions. Rohail has an outstanding academic and extracurricular record at his school, and he hopes to work in public policy in the future.
Q&A with Rohail
Why did you want to be a page?
To get a hands-on experience on how our country's legislator works. I got to apply what I learned in my Government class onto what I saw on the House Floor. Now I know why our legislative system is considered the best in the world.
What have you learned as a page?
That Congressmen are humans just like everyone else; I see that they work so hard non-stop and many just take them for granted. It's not easy being a Congressman.
What is your favorite thing about Washington, D.C.?
The amazing diversity of minds, ethnicities, and beliefs. The wide array of culturally different areas dazes me.
What are your future goals?
I would like to go into public policy and analyze future programs and plans set by the Federal Government. I would love to be able to work for a leader in Congress in many legislative businesses.
June 2009 | Jina Park

Jina Park, a junior at Coppell High School, is the 2009 Congressional Artistic Discovery winner for the 24th District of Texas. Park competed with over forty other talented high school student artists across the 24th in this year's art contest.
As the first place winner, Park's painting, Brio, will be prominently displayed with other winning entries from each congressional district across the country for an entire year in the Cannon Tunnel in Washington, D.C.
The Cannon Tunnel connects the Cannon House Office Building with the U.S. Capitol and is traveled on a daily basis by members of Congress, staff members and thousands of visitors.
The 24th District of Texas will be well represented by Park's impressive artwork.

Q&A with Jina
What was your inspiration for you art piece Brio?
My inspiration for the art piece Brio was the atmosphere of the area. The painting represents a piece of Texas that can be visited by anyone. And I wanted to paint a place that looked appealing and comfortable. Also they have delicious food.
How did you learn about the Congressional Art Contest?
I learned about this wonderful art contest from my high school art teacher Tamera Westervelt. She encouraged the art class to sign up for contests and I choose the Congressional Art Contest because it had many opportunities.
Any additional comments?
It was a great experience winning first place for the Congressional Art Contest, I thank my school art teacher Mrs.Westervelt, and also Congressman Kenny Marchant, and your office for nominating me as the Star of the 24th.
