86 Members Join Congressman Marchant Urging an Investigation into "SWAT-ting"
Washington,
Jun 11, 2012 -
Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) released the following statement after joining 86 Members of Congress in sending a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder urging him to investigate the recent threat of “SWAT-tings:”
“I applaud the 86 members of the House who have joined me in calling for Attorney General Holder to launch an investigation into the growing threat of ‘SWAT-ting.’ This form of harassment is putting people at risk, disrupting essential local police resources, and suppressing bloggers’ first amendment rights. ‘SWAT-ting’ is a serious issue and will not be tolerated. My colleagues and I are committed to seeing that speech is protected and that these incidents are investigated by the Attorney General without delay.”
Congressman Kenny Marchant was the first member in the U.S. House to send a letter to Attorney General Holder calling for an investigation into these matters. The letter was issued on June 7, 2012, and can be read here: http://marchant.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=298885
